The Chaves County Board of Commissioners acted on four other items during its Thursday meeting besides the funding allocation for the Roswell-Chaves County Economic Development Corp.

• It agreed to extend the lease at 209 E. Hendricks to the Southeast New Mexico Community Action Program. The group uses a multipurpose building for the Headstart educational program, as well as for free lunch and breakfast programs for children. The lease is for a five-year term, with the option for another five years. The rent is $400 a year, which was justified by the rationale that the program’s value to local children far exceeds the fair market rental rate for the facility. The group has been leasing the facility for about 20 years, according to county staff.

• The commissioners voted to finalize 2019 road applications by accepting five roads as county-maintained roads, having determined that they now meet county standards.

• Commissioners also agreed to the 2020-21 calendar to govern road applications and hearings. The process starts Dec. 29 with applications for new roads, status changes or road vacations being accepted by the county. The application deadline is set for Feb. 7.

• Several budget adjustments were also approved so that county funds will be balanced.
