Segment of U.S. 285 closed due to tanker accident

A New Mexico State Police Officer stands nearby at the scene of an accident on U.S. 285 mile at mile marker 105 south of Roswell, near the Relief Route, Friday, where a semi hauling liquid asphalt overturned. A segment of U.S. 285 south of Roswell near the Relief Route was closed to traffic in both directions as of 8:26 a.m. Friday, according to the New Mexico Department of Transportation website. Personnel from the State Police, Chaves County Sheriff's Office, Roswell Fire Department and Department of Transportation were on the scene of the single-vehicle accident. No word on if there were any injuries. Liquid asphalt had spilled from the tanker and onto property adjacent to the road.
