Benjamin Andrew Bassett was born in Roswell, New Mexico on October 13, 1942, to John Walden Bassett and Evelyn Thompson Bassett. He attended public schools in Roswell but spent most of his adult life in Dallas, Texas. On December 16, 2019, Ben passed away in Scottsdale, Arizona, an unfortunate victim of Parkinson’s Disease.

Ben graduated from Roswell High School on 1962 and thereafter received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business from New Mexico State University in 1967. Not long after graduating from college, Ben moved to Dallas, Texas, where he lived for most of the remainder of his life. While in Dallas he was employed by the United States Post office, where he displayed a broad knowledge of streets, zip codes, public transportation routes, and public facilities. Ben was drawn to the many attractions offered by the city, including restaurants, plays, lectures and other public events.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister, Eleanor Bassett Schrimsher, of Scottsdale, Arizona, his brother, John Walden Bassett, Jr., and sister-in-law, Nolana Knight Bassett, of Dallas, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ben had a quick wit and remarkable memory, and he took a keen interest in local, national and international affairs. He loved a good joke and took great delight in cooking up “puns” for almost any occasion.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014.
