Jose Barron, athletic director at New Mexico Military Institute, gave an informative talk recently at a meeting of the Sunrise Optimist Club of Roswell. He stated 22 athletic programs are available to the cadets at various levels at the Institute. Nearly $1 million in scholarships have been awarded to both football and baseball participants. Other cadets attend the Institute paying some or all of their tuitions.

These programs attract many quality students to the facility. More importantly, all of the programs have flourished and have provided an excellent transition from the Institute to four-year colleges academically. Jose emphasized that the main goal of the sports program at the Institute was to prepare the young men and women attending academically, socially and physically.
