ZORA MAYE (BARTON) FRANKLIN, 88, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. Please take a moment and share a kind thought or memory with Zora’s family at www.andersonbethany.com.

Zora Maye, Nana to many, was born on February 1, 1931, in Brownboro, Texas, to Benjamin Baily and Amanda Elizabeth (Lindley) Barton. She was one of seven siblings born into the Barton family. In 1949, Zora Maye attended and graduated from Dexter High School, Dexter, NM. She attended college at Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM, where she received her teaching degree as a Diagnostician, relating specifically to special education, although Zora Maye taught in many grade levels and multiple subjects. She also studied Astronomy in college, having a curiosity about our solar system. On February 1, 1931, Zora married her soulmate and partner for life, Paul Jewell Franklin.

Known for her highly proficient skills in sewing, Zora Maye fashioned everything from pants, shirts, dresses, jackets, custom quilts, and even Prom dresses for family and friends. She sewed with a passion unrivaled by many. Zora Maye’s cooking abilities will always be cherished, her chicken and dumplings, beans, and cornbread were the family favorites. She was an avid artist, speed reader, and had a broad spectrum of vocabulary and comprehension in anything she studied. Zora Maye’s spirit, smile, and presence will be dearly missed by her loved ones.

SURVIVORS: Zora Maye is survived by two sons: Paul Jay (Debora Franklin) both of Roswell, NM, and Cristino Antonio N. Franklin Maestas and services companion, Gordo both of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren: Anthony J. and wife Samantha Franklin both of Roswell, NM, Timothy R. and Fiance Audrey Alfaro both of Roswell, NM, Angelica M. Franklin and Fiance Fabian Villa of Roswell, NM and Andrews, TX, Zarina Elaine Franklin of Roswell, NM; great-grandchildren include all of her special little Angels: Isaac Cottrell, Jade Franklin, Caleb Rupe, Tristen Franklin, O’rion Franklin, Adalaya Franklin, and last but not least “Little Tim Franklin.”

PRECEDED: Preceding Zora in death were three brothers: Chester Lindley, Bobbie Norman, John Gaylon Barton; four sisters: Nancy Evelyn Brisco, Bennie Frances Doubert, Peggy Yvonne Barton, Geneva Nell Herring, respectively.

Historical lineage of Peggy Yvonne Barton is not known at this time.

The Family would like to give a special “Thanks” to some heartfelt family and friends, who were there for “Nana,” Paul Scott Troublefield and family, Carl and Maxine Dennis, Geriann Urquides, Rick and Mindy Rupe, adopted great-grandchildren Destiny Burns. Also, a special “Thanks” goes out to Kindred Hospice Services of Roswell, NM.
