James Lay of Roswell, a member of the Cherokee Nation, performs a Southern Straight Dance Friday afternoon at the Salvation Army offices on West College Boulevard for a scene in the movie “Cowgirls and Indians,” written by Roswellite Kate Davis. Several lead actors and extras have come to the city for a few days of filming. Lay frequently dances in his regalia, including for Cherokee Nation and other Native American events, where he has received awards. (Lisa Dunlap Photo)
