A man accused of hitting another man with a hammer was arrested early Saturday morning.
Kalistro Linares, 19, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery Saturday in the 4200 block of South Main Street after he allegedly struck a man in the head several times with a hammer, according to a post on the Chaves County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
Following the attack, the victim was transported by another person to Artesia General Hospital. Charles Yslas, chief deputy with the Sheriff’s Office, said Monday that the victim was later airlifted to another hospital for more advanced treatment.
No documents about the case were filed in Chaves County Magistrate Court as of Monday.
A jail population report from the Chaves County Detention Center states Linares was booked at about 4:24 a.m. Saturday and was still in custody as of Monday morning.
Search warrants were later executed and evidence gathered at multiple locations in Roswell and one in neighboring Eddy County.
Yslas said Monday he could not comment much on the case due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, but that several witnesses and outstanding suspects have been questioned.
