Jimmie Jo (Kelly) Dellagatta, 87, was called home by the Lord on December 28, 2019. She was born on October 7, 1932 to Jim and Josie Perkins in Fort Worth, Texas. She lived in California as a young woman and worked for a temp agency as a “Kelly girl.” She got so used to being called Kelly that she decided to change her name to Kelly. She also worked briefly as an actress. But, Kelly spent the majority of her working life as a bookkeeper and asset manager.
Kelly was fiercely independent and lived her life on her own terms. With the advancement of age, she needed more help, but she didn’t change the way she lived – she adapted.
Kelly was preceded in death by her parents and had no siblings or children. However, she left behind a large family of Hicks, Rogers and Huffaker cousins that she loved and who loved her dearly. Kelly tried to take care of everyone – her large group of friends and her family. Any time she came into possession of anything, her first thought was “who needs this” or “who can I give this to.”
She spent the Christmas holidays with her large family. As was her habit, she had a gift for everyone – more than fifty people. The day after Christmas, only two days before she passed, she spent the whole day shopping with her caregiver, Marisol Renteria, buying gifts for her family and friends for Christmas 2020. She left behind gifts for dozens of people with a written list of who they should go to. The gifts have since been delivered to the recipient she intended.
Kelly was cremated according to her wishes. A memorial will be held at Bethel Baptist Church, 2420 N. Garden on January 18, 2020 at 10:00 am.
