A 20-year-old male who allegedly fired a gun at one or more Roswell Police officers near the Roswell Mall Wednesday night has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to a post on Roswell Police Department’s Facebook page.
The male was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital.
Police encountered the male when they responded at between 9 and 9:30 p.m. to a report of an aggravated assualt at or near the Roswell Mall in the northern part of the city,” the post states.
When officers arrived the suspect fled on foot and allegedly fired one or more shots at police. He was seen fleeing southeast from the mall.
No officers were struck by gunfire.
Police and other area law enforcement agencies then began a search for the suspect.
It found at about 10 p.m. that the suspect had shot himself in the 100 block of Tierra Berrenda Drive, according to the post.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing, police said
