Wilma Beryl Kahn, born August 10, 1932, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2020. She fought a long battle with Alzheimer’s/Dementia for over a decade. Wilma resided at the Goodlife Memory Care facility in Artesia for the last 5 ½ years. The staff over those years were a part of Wilma’s family and ours. We are truly blessed for each one that has taken care of her. Thank you to all of the Goodlife Memory Care “staff-family”. Before living at Goodlife, she previously lived at LaVilla Assisted Living (now Brookdale). We would like to thank all that have taken wonderful care of Wilma.
Wilma’s family include her daughters, Nancy Brooks and husband Bill Brooks, Leslie Zuspan and husband Bill Zuspan, Laurie Hughes and husband Johnny Hughes, and Wilma’s son Jack Kahn. Her grandchildren, Deborah Schmidt, Amber Lee Garrett, Jennifer Johnston, Lee Young,
Jade Hahnenberge, Crystalee Shelton, Rachel Bowen, Marissa Wright, Jessica Herbain Hughes, Adam Zuspan, Cody Hughes, and Cory Hughes. Wilma had many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was a Primary Teacher for her church and the children loved her as much as she loved them. She served in the Family History Center at the church and was a visiting teacher. She loved her church and had the opportunity to visit the Salt Lake City Mormon Temple with her great friends.
Wilma Graduated from Bellevue Schools of Nursing at the Division of Nursing of the College of Medicine at the New York University at the age of 20 receiving her Degree as a Registered Nurse.
Wilma was a talented artist. She “Loved” to paint. She would paint on whiteboards and loved to paint murals on walls, especially on her grandchildren’s walls being uniquely for them. She also painted on store windows. She loved owls! Wilma loved to crochet blankets for her family, a treasure for those that have one. She would illustrate children’s books and make UFO bookmarks.
We will greatly miss her as a Mom, Grandmother, and a Friend to many. She was a lot of fun to be with, had the biggest heart, and always had a positive personality.
We would like to thank Lakeview Hospice in Carlsbad, NM, especially Vicki, Roberta, and Ron for all their help to make it easier to comfort Wilma and the care for her family. Also, we would like to thank Dr. Boone in Artesia and Dr. Mooney in Roswell for the professional care.
A Graveside Funeral will be held at the South Park Cemetery Saturday, January 25, 2020, at 10:00 AM. As you enter the Cemetery gates, stay on the road to the end, turn right to the end, and it will be on the corner.
