Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeastern New Mexico (BBBSSENM) and Starbucks on Main Street teamed up on Dec. 21 to host a fun event for BBBSSENM’s Big and Little mentoring matches.

This event was in conjunction with the monthlong Give Together campaign, a national partnership between Big Brothers Big Sisters and The Starbucks Foundation. Bigs and Littles were invited to create craft snow globes, decorate sugar cookies and socialize. Starbucks provided a table, cookies and decorating supplies, as well as hot chocolate for the Littles to enjoy.

For the past 20 years, the BBBS program has operated on the proven premise that if a caring adult mentor (Big) is matched with a vulnerable child (Little), the child’s life chances will be vastly improved. Independent research shows that after only 18 months in a Big/Little match, these children are twice as likely as their peers to avoid drug use, perform better in school, and get along better at home and in the community. Events, such as the holiday party, are an integral part of BBBS mentoring program; they offer opportunities for its matches to connect and have fun together, which is important for building the strength of the mentoring relationship. “The event was a resounding success, and everyone in attendance had a wonderful time,” Bill Wolf, BBBSSENM chief executive officer said.

BBBSSENM office is located at 1717 W. Second St., Ste. 200. For more information, email bwolf@bbbsenm.org or call 575-627-2227.
