One of the most wanted criminals in the Albuquerque Metro area was found and taken into custody in Chaves County Wednesday.

Chaves County deputies assisted several law enforcement agencies in the arrest of Elias Angel Miyamoto, 21, of Los Lunas, Wednesday at 2:45 a.m. in the 6000 block of South Main Street, Sheriff Mike Herrington said Friday.

“He (Miyamoto) was here in town and deputies went and assisted agencies that were looking for him and took him into custody,” Herrington said.

Miyamoto was booked at the Chaves County Detention Center at 9:12 a.m. Tuesday on one count of failure to appear on a felony charge and outstanding warrants for his arrest on three probation violations, according to a jail summary report.

A post on the Albuquerque Police Department’s Facebook page lists Miyamoto, who was wanted for armed robbery as one of the Albuquerque Police Department’s Metro 15 list of most wanted criminals.

Miyamoto is charged with one count each of first-degree armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, receiving or transferring stolen motor vehicles, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle and conspiracy to commit unlawful taking of a motor vehicle in connection with a Nov. 23 incident, court documents state.

A bench warrant was issued for Miyamoto’s arrest Dec. 16 in New Mexico’s 2nd Judicial District Court in Bernalillo County after he failed to appear for an arraignment. He also had three outstanding arrest warrants for probation violations.

Court records show Miyamoto has a criminal record stretching back to 2016 on multiple charges of burglary, armed robbery, motor vehicle theft and fraudulent use of an illegally obtained credit card.
