Letter: It’s important for everyone to be counted in 2020

Ten years ago at the time of the 2010 Census, I wrote a letter to the editor of the RDR concerning a community activist and a priest who would not encourage minorities to participate in the census. I wrote in my letter the account in the Bible that tells the story of how Joseph and a very pregnant Mary made the long journey for the census as required by King Herod; they obeyed the law. Jews, Gentiles, and others alike were required to go and be counted.

I cannot state strongly enough how important it is for all to participate in the census. A rising tide lifts all boats. If Roswell can reach 50,000 in population, all will benefit. Make no mistake about it, millions of dollars will help everybody.

To not participate hurts everybody to include you and your entire family.

I encourage all leaders to include men of the cloth to encourage their flock to obey the law and be counted. How else can a true picture of our city be portrayed accurately, and I’m not just talking about numbers.

Some say that they are not represented or counted. Well, here’s your chance …
