New Mexico state government departments are helping to coordinate two upcoming business conferences, one meant primarily for veterans and the other for outdoor recreation businesses.

• The Military & Veteran Entrepreneur Summit will be held March 18, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Las Cruces Convention Center, 680 E. University Ave.

The free summit is presented by the New Mexico District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration and the New Mexico Veterans Outreach Center. It is open to active duty service members, veterans, National Guard and reserve members, and their spouses. People from rural areas are especially encouraged to attend.

The summit will include presentations by successful entrepreneurs and breakout sessions on various topics, including access to capital and government contracting.

Pre-registration is required and must be done online by March 11 at www.sbamilitarysummit.eventbrite.com. For additional information, contact Rico Zanotti at merico.zanotti@sba.gov.

• The third annual New Mexico Outdoor Economics Conference will occur Oct. 1-2 at the Farmington Civic Center, 200 W. Arrington St.

The conference is organized by Outdoor New Mexico, a nonprofit organization, and the New Mexico Outdoor Recreation Division of the New Mexico Economic Development Department.

According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the outdoor industry contributed $2.3 billion to the New Mexico economy in 2017. Last year’s conference in Silver City was attended by more than 300 people from 60 cities.

Topics at this year’s conference will include outdoor marketing, outdoor recreation business development, sustainability, diversity and outdoor equity, and will offer forums for outdoor companies, youth groups and educators to collaborate and network. For the first time, the conference also will feature an outdoor expo showcasing New Mexico outdoor recreation-based companies and products.

Those interested in attending the Outdoor Economics Conference can register online at www.outdooreconomicsnm.com. Information about the required fee can be found there as well.
