A Roswell man has been arrested on multiple charges that involve suspected car theft, leading police on a foot chase and other incidents, according to information released by the Roswell Police Department.
Robert L. Clements, 27, was charged Friday with aggravated burglary, felon in possession of a firearm, dealing in credit cards of another, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting, evading or obstructing an officer.
The Roswell Police Department said that officers were called to the 600 block of New Mexico Drive about 4:15 a.m. Friday after someone spotted a man checking vehicle door handles.
When officers arrived, the suspect was located in a backyard in the 500 block of Fulkerson Drive. Police said the suspect then fled on foot and they pursued. During the chase, the suspect discarded a backpack and gun, the police statement indicated. When the suspect was caught, he was identified as Clements.
Police said that Clements, who was on probation for aggravated assault, was found to have in his possession several credit cards belonging to a man whose vehicle had been reported stolen the previous day. The Roswell Police Department indicated that the vehicle was found a few blocks away from where Clements had been apprehended.
