A two-vehicle crash on Feb. 20 at the intersection of the Relief Route and West McGaffey Street resulted in the death of a local man, according to information released by New Mexico State Police.

A State Police investigation indicated a 2004 Ford Mustang driven by David K. Thurman, 56, of Roswell, was traveling east on West McGaffey, approaching the intersection with the Relief Route.

For unknown reasons, the Mustang ran the stop sign and was struck by a 2015 Jeep traveling south on the Relief Route, according to a press release issued by State Police.

Thurman sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.

The driver of the Jeep, a 19-year-old woman from Capitan, sustained injuries believed to be non-life-threatening. She was treated at the scene.
