A man from Roswell died in a two-vehicle crash Thursday at the intersection of the Roswell Relief Route and West McGaffey Street.

David K. Thurman, 56, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator, according to a press release issued Friday by the New Mexico State Police. The crash occurred at about 5 p.m.

Results of the initial investigation indicate Thurman was driving a 2004 Ford Mustang while heading eastbound on West McGaffey Street when, for reasons unknown, he ran a stop sign and was struck by a 2015 Jeep that was traveling south on the Roswell Relief Route.

A 19-year-old female from Capitan was driving the jeep and was treated at the scene of the accident for injuries believed to be non-life-threatening, according to the release.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the accident, the release states.
