The U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has scheduled a public scoping period for input on 20 parcels (3,405.84 acres) of federal mineral rights proposed for the August 2020 competitive oil and gas lease sale.

The public scoping period will begin March 9 and conclude on March 20. The lease sale is tentatively scheduled for Aug. 26-27.

This scoping process is intended to solicit public input on relevant issues, potential impacts and alternatives that the BLM should address in an environmental assessment to be prepared in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act. Comments can be made on the BLM website, www.blm.gov. Information provided in comments could be made public.

The proposed parcels in the August sale include three in Eddy County and seven in Lea County in New Mexico. The parcels in Oklahoma include one in Blaine County, one in Dewey County and one in Ellis County. The parcels in Texas include five in Washington County, one in Denton County and one in Lee County.
