On April 17, 1943, Mando was born to Leopoldo and Dolores “Lola” Carrillo in Roswell, NM, where he graduated from high school. He continued his education and received a Bachelor of Business Degree. Mando was the beloved husband of Rebecca Montoya, whom he married on February 4, 1978, in Roswell, New Mexico. Prior to retirement, he was a Youth Counselor and Mental Health Technician at the Roswell Correctional Center. Mando enjoyed providing support services to others and also loved being involved in the Boyscouts with the scouts, who also called him “Uncle Mando.” These gifts of compassion are more than learned behaviors, and they were characteristics of his nature; his heart was for service, and his life was dedicated to being the best man for his family.

Mando loved to dance and listen to oldies; he was known as the “Big Bopper” because he was such a good dancer. Mando was a great father to his children and grandfather to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be remembered for always whistling while he worked. “Mando” may be gone, but he will never be forgotten as he was deeply loved and respected by his loved ones and everyone who was blessed to have known him.
