Varena White, age 98, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2020 in Georgetown, Texas where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law. Mrs. White, always known as “Tiny”, was born November 14, 1921 into a large family in Stone County, Missouri to Burnice Burk and Ollie Seisser (Daniel) Burk. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Denver Eugene White. She was also preceded in death by her daughter-in law, Terry White, and by her 12 siblings, including her twin sister, Rena.

She is survived by her son, Ronald Dean White of Albuquerque. Her daughter, Darlene Jones and her husband William W. Jones of Georgetown, TX, grandsons, Corbin Wade O’Cheskey of Lubbock, TX, Reagan Jones and his wife, Abigail, and great granddaughter, Lillian, of Stroudsburg, PA and granddaughter, Paula Jones of Leander, TX. She is also survived by her very good friend, Karen Ward.

Varena married Denver Eugene White on November 23, 1937 and moved to Springfield, MO. where she lived with her in-laws while Denver served in the Army during WWII. In the early 1950’s, they moved to Alabama and then in 1959 moved to Roswell, NM. There, Varena worked at St.Mary’s Hospital and as a private duty nurse until retirement.

Denver and Varena were able to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary with a big family reunion in Ruidoso, NM in 1987. Her husband passed away 7 years later. Varena remained in the family home in Roswell taking care of her yard, garden and greenhouse. She could make a stick grow into a lovely houseplant and did beautiful hand embroidery and hand quilting.

Due to health issues, Varena began living with her daughter and son-in-law in 2015 in Roswell, NM. She and family moved to Georgetown, TX in March of 2019. She loved the green trees, lovely plants and flowers of Georgetown.

She and her family grew very fond of the Kindred Hospice care-givers who helped her during her last days.

A memorial service will be held at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Roswell, NM at a later date.
