The self-employed and contract and gig workers can begin filing for unemployment insurance benefits on Sunday, the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions has announced.

People who have had their income or work reduced because of the COVID-19 crisis can apply for federal Pandemic Unemployment Assistance through the state’s online benefits system, www.jobs.state.nm.us. Applicants will need to provide copies of tax forms proving prior income.

Eligible applicants include those not eligible for regular unemployment benefits, including the self-employed, non-profit and church workers, and people who have already exhausted their regular unemployment benefits.

Additional information is available on the Department of Workforce Solutions website, www.dws.state.nm.us.
