The New Mexico congressional delegation staff will hold four virtual informational sessions for middle school and high school students and recent graduates interested in applying to U.S. military academies for fall 2020.
Students have until Oct. 9 to complete online applications on a website of one of the congressional leaders.
The dates, times and links to the virtual conferences are available by contacting the offices of the senators and representatives. They start May 4.
Staff representing U.S. Sens. Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich and Reps. Ben Ray Lujan, Deb. Haaland and Xochitl Torres Small will provide information and answer questions for students and parents during the informational sessions.
The U.S. Coast Guard does not require a nomination by a member of Congress, the U.S. vice president or a military representative, but nominations are needed for the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
