A courthouse makeover

Christina Stock Photo Pecos Valley Iris Society members, masked to prevent the spread of COVID-19, are seen here volunteering for Keep Chaves County Beautiful’s planting project on Thursday morning at the Chaves County Courthouse. This year, a variety of flowers were planted — including, of course, iris plants. “These are two-toned mauve and beige iris,” Society member Isabel Olsen said. According to Rita Kane-Doerhoefer of Keep Chaves County Beautiful, the organization spent $1,700 to purchase soil and a combination of plants. The planting continues Saturday morning downtown with other volunteers. Society members pictured, from left, are Bob Hutchings, Joyce Hutchings, Melanie Deason, Pat Krakauskas and Olsen.
