Applications are still being accepted for the Vern Stahl Memorial Scholarship through Wednesday. Deadline is May 20, 3 p.m.

Sunrise Optimist Club of Roswell will be offering local public high school seniors a total of $4,000 in scholarships, which includes three $1,000 scholarships and two $500 scholarships. These are only available to graduating seniors from Early College, Roswell, Goddard and University High schools. Contact a Sunrise Optimist member at 575-420-9420 or 575-420-9421 for an application or if you have any questions concerning the application or where to turn it in since the schools are closed.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the deadline for entries has been extended to Wednesday by 3 p.m. Applications must be received by that time. The winners will be announced later, as soon as possible.

Applicants will be judged on scholarship, community involvement, school participation, work experience and need.

The Sunrise Optimist Club of Roswell has awarded over $50,000 for the past 19 years since chartering in 2000. Many of the scholarship winners have gone on to have successful college and university educational careers and have contributed greatly to their community.
