On August 24, 1939 Gail was born to Ray Barton and Grace Baker on the family ranch in Dunlap, New Mexico. She went to grade school in Dunlap where her mother taught grades 1-8 all together. She went on to graduate from Fort Sumner High School. She spent most of her life on the ranch helping take care of it and raising her two children with her husband Billy Wayne Dinwiddie. She was a true ranch wife and mom. Gail was heavily involved with her kids 4-H and FFA projects. She especially loved watching her kids, Tommy and Deedra show their cattle at the fairs. Known by students and friends as “Mama D” she drove many a mile hauling FFA and 4H kids to judging contests and conventions. She loved all the kids as if they were her own.
Gail also loved the sport of rodeo. She herself won a national title while she was in high school. Everyone knew Gail was at the rodeo rooting her kids and grandkids on, when she started yelling “hurry, hurry, hurry”.
Gail took pride in yard work and planting flowers, she never had a summer go by that she didn’t have many a pot planted with geraniums. She LOVED sewing and she made several outfits for her granddaughters to wear at wool lead contests at the fairs. Her latest love came when she started making homemade cards to send to all her grandkids.
