Alex Ross Photo From left, Nicole Krzebiot, Ray Ceballos and Victoria Rodriguez were among those who turned out late Monday afternoon outside the Chaves County Courthouse on North Main Street for a Black Lives Matter demonstration in response to the release of a video showing the killing of George Floyd, 46, a black man killed when a white Minneapolis police officer knelt on the back of Floyd’s neck. The incident has touched off demonstrations across the country, some peaceful but others violent. Protesters chanted “Black Lives Matter” and held up placards while drivers passing by honked and shouted comments of support. Rodriguez said she was motivated to come out because of the need to protect people’s rights. “I think staying neutral isn’t going to help, it’s a little part of the problem and I think we just need change,” she said.
