Chaves County had no new COVID-19 cases or deaths on Saturday, according to state health officials.

The New Mexico Department of Health released information Saturday indicating that the number of diagnosed COVID-19 cases in the county is now 49, out of 4,445 tests given. On Friday, the total was given at 50, having been reduced from the 51 reported on Thursday due to duplication errors that had been corrected. No explanation was given about the lowered Chaves County count specifically, but the Health Department did note that all cases are subject to residency verifications. The number of deaths in Chaves County remains at two.

Statewide, 129 new cases were reported Saturday among 10 counties and federal agencies in Otero County. The bulk of new cases (107) were in Bernalillo, Doña Ana, McKinley and San Juan counties. Five deaths also were announced. Four people were from McKinley County, and one was from San Juan County. All were 50 or older, were hospitalized and had underlying conditions.

In total, the state has analyzed 229,147 tests and found 8,800 COVID-19 positive cases in 31 counties. Of those who had tested positive, 3,286 people have recovered. Deaths now number 392 statewide. Currently, 176 people with COVID-19 are hospitalized, with 1,489 hospitalizations having been reported during the past three months.
