Roswell police are again receiving reports from Roswell residents who have recently received scam calls from callers claiming to be from a government agency and telling people there is an issue with their Social Security number or something similar.

They may ask for personal or financial information.

Government agencies that have legitimate need to contact you about these types of topics do not collect information through phone calls. You would be contacted in a much more formal manner, including documentation from the official agency that can be verified properly. Be wary of any claims asking you to do “official” business on the phone.

Expect it is a scam when you receive a call from an unknown person requesting you to take some sort of action involving money or personal and financial information.
