Jackie Nelson Alsup

Jackie Nelson Alsup passed away on Sunday May 31, 2020 at the age of 88 in Roswell, NM. Jackie, or Jack to most family and friends was born on Dec. 20, 1931 in Ellis County to George Dewey Alsup and Beatrice (Mosley) Alsup near Waxahachie, Texas.

Jack moved to New Mexico with his family in late 40’s and resided in the Las Cruces, NM area. During Jacks early years he worked as a heavy equipment operator in the local area. Jack served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean war for two years. He spent most of this time in the south Pacific and talked fondly of his time while serving. Upon his return he worked while continuing his education at NMSU in Las Cruces, N.M. Jack received a BS degree in Business Administration, majoring in accounting and graduated in May of 1959.

After graduation Jack worked for several accounting firms in the Alamogordo and Albuquerque area. He began working for the State of New Mexico as an auditor in the mid 60’s. Jack married Gwendolyn Sue Horn in May of 1974. During this time Jack enjoyed his profession and spending time in the outdoors. After retiring with the State of New Mexico, Jack spent his time traveling, fishing, working in his yard and attending tractor shows. Jack attended the West Alameda Church of Christ for many years and was loved and cared for by many in his congregation.

Jack will be greatly missed by all his family, friends and all who knew him. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Sue and brother, Sydney Alsup. Living survivors who will cherish his memories include, a son, Charles Horn, his wife Joy; two grandchildren, William and Madeline; four sisters, and many nieces and nephews.

Services for Jack Alsup were concluded on June 5th at West Alameda Church of Christ with close family and friends in attendance. He was laid to rest at South Park Cemetery with military honors. The family would like to thank all members of his church, close family/friends, past caregivers, and the medical community for the care and compassion that was provided to Jack.
