County COVID totals remain the same

No new COVID-19 cases or coronavirus-related deaths were reported Saturday for Chaves County, according to information from the New Mexico Department of Health.

Statewide, 172 additional cases and two deaths were announced by the state. Due to corrections to previous data, the state’s totals now are 10,430 diagnosed cases and 466 deaths. A large number of the new cases, 64, were reported among federal and state detainees at the Otero County Prison Facility. Another 68 of the cases were reported in the northwest counties of Bernalillo, McKinley, San Juan, Santa Fe and Sandoval.

The two deaths reported on Saturday were both McKinley County residents, a woman in her 60s and a man in his 50s. They both were hospitalized and were reported to have underlying symptoms.

Chaves County continues to have a total of 64 COVID cases, with the state reporting that 5,304 residents have been tested since March. About 29 of the 64 cases are current, with 33 reported as recovered and two people having passed away in March.

In New Mexico, 4,628 people are listed as recovered. A total of 288,637 tests have been completed. Of the 5,336 that have not been reported as recovered, 145 are in the hospital. Since March, 1,740 New Mexicans have been hospitalized.

COVID-19 has been reported at eight different detention facilities, four of which serve federal detainees, three that hold New Mexico Department of Corrections inmates and one which holds both state and federal detainees. In addition, 48 nursing homes and group care facilities across the state have reported at least one case of COVID-19 among staff or residents in the past 28 days.
