State adjusts local COVID-19 case number

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Chaves County has been adjusted to 65 after the New Mexico Department of Health determined one case was an out-of-state resident, according to the state’s daily update Tuesday.

No new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Chaves County.

The state reported 147 new cases, with 50 in McKinley County, 41 in San Juan County and 20 in Bernalillo County. Eleven counties each reported fewer than 10 new cases. 

Seven deaths were announced Tuesday. Two were in Cibola County, two in Doña Ana, and one each in Sandoval, San Juan and Taos counties. All were 60 or older. Six were hospitalized and one was a patient in an Albuquerque rehabilitation center. Four had underlying health conditions.

The total number of deaths of New Mexico residents related to COVID-19 is now 476.

The state’s total number of reported cases was also adjusted for two duplicate cases reported in Roosevelt and Santa Fe counties. The state total is now at 10,838.

As of Tuesday, 141 people are hospitalized for COVID-19; 4,874 are considered recovered. Of Chaves County’s 65 cases, 35 are designated recovered.

Statewide, 302,083 tests have been performed; 5,605 of those are in Chaves County.
