Six more COVID-19 positive test results were announced in Chaves County Monday, bringing the total number of local cases of the virus to 89.
The six cases reported locally Monday were among 173 new cases reported statewide by the New Mexico Department of Health in its daily report. The state also announced 192 new cases Sunday in New Mexico, including four in Chaves County.
With Monday’s new figures, New Mexico has had 11,982 cases of the virus since March.
State officials also reported Monday another individual has died from COVID-19 complications, a female in her 50s from San Juan County who was hospitalized and had underlying health conditions.
New Mexico has so far had 493 fatalities associated with the pandemic, including two from Chaves County.
Counties reporting the highest numbers of new positive test results Monday were Bernalillo County, 45; Dona Ana County, 35; and San Juan County, with 13. One additional case was also reported among New Mexico Corrections Department inmates held at the Central New Mexico Correctional Facility.
As of Monday, 5,926 individual cases of the virus have been designated by the Department of Health as having recovered.
In all, 119 New Mexico residents who have tested positive for COVID-19 are currently hospitalized.
