County’s COVID-19 cases continue to increase

The number of COVID-19 cases continues to increase in Chaves County, with another five cases announced in Friday’s update from the New Mexico Department of Health.

The state added another 257 cases on Friday, giving a total of 12,776. Chaves County now has a total of 105 cases with 45 of those listed as recovered. Statewide, 5,802 people have recovered.

In Chaves County, 19 of the cases have been among the 20 to 29 age group, with the 50 to 59 age group just behind with 18 cases. The 30 to 39 age group and 60 to 69 age group have each had 13.

Previously reported numbers included one case in San Juan County that has been identified as an out-of-state resident. The state total has been corrected to reflect that change.

Bernalillo County reported 55 new cases, McKinley County 42, Doña Ana County 40 and San Juan County 23.

Fifteen counties reported 12 or fewer cases each, while three new cases were reported in Otero County Prison, one in the Otero County Processing Center and 11 in the Torrance County Detention Facility.

The number of deaths associated with COVID-19 increased by eight in Friday’s update to a total of 511. One was a male in his 40s, three were men in their 50s and the remaining four were in their 80s and 90s. Five had been hospitalized and five and underlying conditions.

As of Friday, 130 people remain hospitalized. A total of 1,970 have been hospitalized.

The state has conducted 363,374 tests for COVID-19, with 6,728 of those in Chaves County.
