Flag retirement

Lisa Dunlap Photo American Legion Post No. 28 Commander Michael Trujillo, left, and First Vice-Commander Felix Sosa ignite one of the U.S. flags Saturday afternoon that were retired during an annual ceremony held on the grounds of the post on North Montana Avenue. People are able to donate worn or faded flags throughout the year by dropping them in a yellow mailbox in front of the post building. Trujillo said a lot of people don’t realize that they aren’t just supposed to throw away old flags, but should allow them to be disposed of in a way that honors their service and what they represent. “It has to be done properly,” he said, “with respect.”
