Samuel Thomas Wyman

Samuel Thomas Wyman was born in Carlsbad, New Mexico on Saturday, January 8, 1938. He was raised in Hagerman, New Mexico and graduated with the Hagerman High School class of 1956. He died on Sunday, July 5, 2020 at Loma Linda Medical Centre in California.

Early on, Sam displayed a unique ability to create almost anything that involved electricity. Growing up in the Wyman home during Sam’s younger years was always an experience with electrical gadgetry. Following graduation, Sam joined the U.S. Navy. He sang with the Naval Training Command Base Choir. He served on an escort destroyer as an electrician’s mate during the Cuban Missile Crisis, participated in other emergency area deployments, and was deployed for two tours in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1972. He then began civilian employment as an electrician for Crown Motor Corporation in Los Angeles wiring the electrical controls for specialized custom-created fire engines ordered by cities from across North America.

He obtained his Electrical Contractor’s License and finished his career on the executive staff of the University of Southern California as senior electrical contractor supervising upgrading and rewiring of their many campus buildings.

At the same time for many years and well into retirement Sam mentored Los Angeles teenagers and adults who suffered with alcoholism and drugs, working with California government and private agencies.

His wife, Gail Carey, died in 2015 and afterwards he lived with his brother-in-law, Cliff Carey until Sam’s death.
