Roswell Police are asking the public for any information they might have about a Tuesday evening hit-and-run accident in which a 2-year old boy was struck by a vehicle.

The accident occurred at 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Greenwood Avenue and Cherry Street when the boy — who was with his two six-year-old brothers — was struck by a white car while preparing to cross the street, according to a press release Thursday from the Roswell Police Department.

After being transported to a local hospital, the injured child was subsequently transported to a hospital in Lubbock, Texas. As of Wednesday, the child remained in intensive care.

The older boys later informed police that after their brother was hit, the vehicle stopped and a man stepped out of it. The man then picked up the injured child and took him to an 800 block of Cherry Street house where the boys lived.

With the 2-year-old in his arms, the man approached the boy’s mother, who was at the house, and informed her the child had been run over, according to a report filed by officers who responded to the accident.

While everyone else was tending to the injured 2-year-old, the man got back into his vehicle and sped off.

The make and model of the white car remains unknown, according to the press release. The male was described as Hispanic, “chubby,” with a beard, and about five feet, ten inches tall.

People with information that could lead to the identification and location of the vehicle involved or its driver should contact the Roswell Police Department at 575-624-6770 or Chaves County Crime Stoppers at 1-888-594-8477.
