Mrs. Alice Belle Burleson-Bennett, of Roswell, NM, died on July 27, 2020, in Midland, Texas at the age of 91.

Belle was born on June 12, 1929 in Idabel, Oklahoma. Belle moved with her first husband and children to Roswell in 1955. Belle worked in retail for both Anthony’s and Dave Wolf Shoes for many years. She was also a professional seamstress and continued to offer her services to her loyal customers until she was hospitalized in 2016 with Alzheimer’s.

In 1949, Belle married James Burleson, and the couple had five children together. As a working mother, Belle balanced her time between caring for her family and her retail jobs, and one often found her completing sewing orders in the early morning hours, in order to avoid taking away from time with her family.

After the death of her husband in 2006, she remarried her second husband Russell William Bennett, of Roswell in 2007. The couple attended Midway Assemblies of God and were beloved in their congregation.

Belle will be loved and missed by her surviving husband, Russell Bennett; her sister, Luciene Jones; her son, Vernon Burleson; her daughters, Anna Newton and Jeanette Burleson; her son-in-law, Kenneth Newton; and her countless grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Annie Watson; her brother, Pete; one sister, Lorene; her first husband, Jim; two of her sons, James Randall and James Larry; and a grandchild, Bryce.
