Local retailers and businesses, including She’s a Dandy at 302 N. Main St. and employee Halle Munson, prepared Friday for the weekend shopping when gross receipts taxes, or sales taxes, are not charged for many items. The annual weekend is intended to help people purchase back-to-school supplies, although for most public school students, classes are only scheduled to take place online in August. For New Mexico, the tax-free weekend began early Friday morning and will continue until midnight Sunday. (Lisa Dunlap Photo)
