The Board of Education of the Roswell Independent School District will interview candidates to fill a vacant seat at a special meeting this week.

The meeting will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Administrative and Educational Services Complex, 300 N. Kentucky Ave. The meeting will be livestreamed on the district’s YouTube channel.

Acting Board President Hope Morales said the board will interview four applicants for the District 3 seat. The position became vacant July 27, when Board President Alan Gedde resigned for personal reasons.

The board will conduct the interviews during the meeting and then consider making an appointment.

The board is then scheduled to discuss and possibly vote on reorganizing to name a new president. The board reorganized in April, selecting Gedde to continue as president, Morales as vice president and Hilda Sanchez as secretary.

The first part of the meeting will address a collective bargaining agreement with the Communication Workers of America (CWA) Local 7070, the union representing the district’s custodial, maintenance and security staff.

The agenda’s first item is an executive session to discuss the 2020-21 agreement. Among the changes from the previous year’s agreement is the addition of a section giving the union 30 minutes paid time to meet with new employees; revisions to a section on vacancies and posting of department head and assistant head custodian; and a 1% across-the-board raise.

The CWA ratified the agreement on Aug. 11.

During the executive session, the livestream of the meeting will be paused. It will resume when the board reconvenes in open session.

Following the closed discussion, the board is scheduled to reconvene in open session to discuss and vote on approving the agreement and salary schedules.
