State reports low number of new COVID-19 cases again

County numbers have decreased for the third day in a row

For the second day in a row, the number of new cases of COVID-19 reported in New Mexico was less than 100.

State health officials reported 79 new cases statewide in Tuesday’s update. Four of those were in Chaves County.

Bernalillo County had 20 new cases, Lea County had 12 and Santa Fe County had 10. In addition to Chaves County, 13 other counties reported new cases in the single digits.

The total number of cases statewide since March is 23,579 with 10,802 designated as recovered. Chaves County has had a total of 548 with 150 designated as recovered.

The Department of Health reported Tuesday five deaths related to COVID-19. They were a woman in her 90s from Bernalillo County, a man in his 90s from Doña Ana County, a man in his 80s from Lea County, a female in her 60s from McKinley County and a man in his 60s from San Juan County.

Four of the deceased had underlying conditions; three had been hospitalized. Two were residents of care centers.

The number of deaths statewide is 723, while Chaves County remains at six deaths since March.

As of Tuesday, 111 people are hospitalized statewide.
