The Roswell Elks announce their ninth annual charity golf event to support Wounded Warriors, which will be held on Sept. 12 at the New Mexico Military Institute Golf Course.

The tournament’s format will be a little different than in years past due to the coronavirus. The event will still feature 24, four-man teams but tee times will be assigned with the first team teeing off at 8 a.m. and the other teams being delayed by 10-minute intervals.

Lunch will still be served as teams finish their rounds. They will be given their choice of hamburgers or hot dogs — however, there will be no gathering in the lodge because of social-distancing protocols. Each player will receive a raffle ticket at check-in and will be entered to win golf balls, gloves and other prizes.

“Eighty percent of the golfers in the tournament play every year and they support this golf tournament and the charity’s cause,” said Roswell Elks Charity Golf chairperson and Vietnam veteran Richard Anglada. “Most everybody knows about it, so it fills out fast. The golfers have been waiting and are eager to play and support this event.”

With the proceeds, Anglada and the rest of the Roswell Elks committee help not only Wounded Warriors but all veterans in need of assistance year-round. The charity works closely with other agencies to help find permanent housing for homeless veterans, transport veterans to and from doctor’s appointments, and is currently helping one veteran make renovations on his home.

Entry into the tournament is open now and spots are limited. For more information, call the Elks at 575-623-6033.
