Marie Manning, standing at left, and her friend Heidi Franks, in baseball cap, assist kids in painting and making keychains, necklaces and bracelets Saturday morning at the Chaves County Courthouse during the Farmers’ and Gardeners’ Market, their first day offering the station. Manning has worked as a permanent substitute in Roswell for about five years, where she met Franks, who now works for the TRiO program at Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell. They decided kids needed something creative to do and have chosen to give their time, skills and donated materials to run the booth each Saturday during the market, which is scheduled to run until late September or early October.
