Police are looking for a man identified as a person of interest in a Tuesday night shooting in Roswell that left one woman dead and a man critically injured.

Ignacio Juan Gamez, 29, of Roswell, has not been formally charged, but police want to speak to him as part of the ongoing investigation into the double shooting, according to a press release issued Wednesday by the Roswell Police Department.

Electronic court records indicate that Gamez is wanted on an outstanding warrant for failure to comply with conditions of probation in an unrelated case.

Crystal Aguilar, 38, and Mark Montoya, 33, both from Roswell, were both found shot multiple times Tuesday night in the backyard of a 500 block of South Kansas Avenue residence, according to the press release.

Aguilar was found by police deceased, while Montoya, who was critically injured, was transported to a nearby hospital. Montoya was subsequently airlifted to another hospital where, as of Wednesday, he remained hospitalized and is expected to survive.

Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of South Kansas Avenue at 8 p.m. Tuesday in response to numerous calls of shots fired.

After officers and investigators arrived in the area, a section of South Kansas Avenue between West Hendricks and Albuquerque streets and some adjacent alleyways were cordoned off by police units.

People with any information about Gamez’s whereabouts, or other information in the case, should contact the Roswell Police Department at 575-624-6770 or Chaves County Crime Stoppers at 1-888-594-8477.
