Chaves County reports 16 new COVID-19 cases

Chaves County reported 16 of the state’s 92 new cases of COVID-19 in Wednesday’s update from the New Mexico Department of Health.

Wednesday’s report brings the statewide total to 26,268 including 836 in Chaves County.

Chaves County’s rolling seven-day average of new cases is at 11, according to the health department’s website.

The statewide total has been adjusted to reflect three cases identified as duplicates in Lea and San Juan counties, one case in Curry County that was not lab confirmed and one in Rio Arriba County identified as an out-of-state resident.

Another long-term care facility in Roswell has reported at least one case of COVID-19 in the last 28 days, according to the update.

Sunset Villa Nursing Home was added to the list of such facilities in the state. Five other Roswell facilities are currently on the list: Avamere at Roswell, Casa Maria Health Care Center, Heartfelt Manor, Mission Arch Center and Village Retirement Community.

Six deaths were reported in Wednesday’s update. Three were in Doña Ana County, one in Bernalillo County, one in Lea County and one in Sandoval County. Five had been hospitalized and four had underlying health conditions. All were in their 70s or older.

The total number of deaths related to COVID-19 in New Mexico is now 813, and the number for Chaves County remains at seven since March.

As of Wednesday, 77 people are hospitalized in New Mexico for COVID-19.

The state has designated 13,928 cases as recovered including 324 in Chaves County.

The state has conducted 803,101 tests including 18,241 in Chaves County.
