James Eugene Mohon died on August 1, 2020, at the home of his sister Shirley Mohon Holstrom in Timberon, New Mexico.

Known as Gene to his family, he was born in Roswell, New Mexico, on October 7, 1938, to James Alton Mohon and Mary Josephine Collier. Gene grew up on the family farm, helping with the cotton and alfalfa crops. He attended Roswell schools and received his diploma from Roswell High School while serving in the Marines.

While in the Marine Corps, Gene met and married Connie Reis, and they had three children. They lived in Idaho where Connie’s family lived, and later in Phoenix, Arizona. While in Arizona, Gene (or Jim as he was known by that time) worked as a mechanic for a large farm, maintaining dozens of farm machines for more than 20 years. Gene and Connie moved back to Roswell in the early 1990’s, where they lived on the Mohon family farm until Connie’s death in 1998.

Later, in 2000, Gene married Jolene Henington and they lived on her farm east of Roswell near the Pecos River until their divorce in 2018. Gene loved to tell stories about his years on the farm, his time in the service, and adventures hunting and fishing as a boy.

He is survived by his three children, Don Alan Mohon, Jimmie Gene Mohon, and Cheryl Mohon Cox, as well as his six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Shirley Mohon Holstrom of Timberon, New Mexico and MaryLou Mohon Smith of Fort Collins, Colorado.
