Eastern New Mexico Medical Center announced this week that Nichole Luevano, BSN, RN has been selected to receive its Nursing Excellence Award.

This peer-nominated award, created in honor of 2020 being the “Year of the Nurse,” and in recognition of the critical role nurses have played in treating patients throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, was open to qualifying RNs and LPNs working in a direct patient care position who consistently demonstrate characteristics synonymous with nursing excellence.

Luevano was chosen from among many nominations for her outstanding compassion with her patients and their families. She is often the first to lend a shoulder to cry on or an ear to listen to support her patients.

“ENMMC is fortunate to have many outstanding nurses like Nichole among its ranks. Nurses who deliver exemplary care, compassion and service, who understand the importance of teamwork and mentoring others, who can lead in times of crises, and who are true champions of promoting health care in our community,” said Warren Yehl, CEO of ENMMC. “With so much focus this year on the selfless efforts of front-line heroes like Nichole, we are pleased to acknowledge the important contributions of our nursing professionals.”

Luevano joined ENMMC in February 2015 and in that time, has worked as a staff nurse in the Medical/Surgical unit before following her passion to the Emergency Room. Most recently she was promoted to the charge nurse position in the Emergency Room.
