Chaves County reports 65 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday

The state of New Mexico announced 1,266 new COVID-19 cases including 65 in Chaves County in Tuesday’s daily update.

The new numbers bring the state’s total number of positive tests to 57,547 and the county’s total to 2,678.

The Roswell Correctional Center reported no new cases Tuesday. Its total number of cases is 215.

Previously reported COVID-19 positive totals have been corrected to reflect seven cases identified as duplicates in Bernalillo, Doña Ana, Santa Fe and Taos counties; one case in Chaves County that was not lab confirmed; and two cases from Bernalillo and Chaves counties that were determined to be among inmates at the Roswell Correctional Center.

The most cases reported Tuesday were in Bernalillo and Doña Ana counties, with 307 and 222 new cases, respectively. Twenty-nine counties and two correctional facilities reported new cases in Tuesday’s update.

The Department of Health also reported 14 deaths related to COVID-19 in Tuesday’s update. Half of them were from Doña Ana County and were two men in their 40s, a man in his 50s, two women in their 60s, a woman in her 70s and a woman in her 80s.

There were two deaths from McKinley County — a woman and a man each in their 70s. The deceased also included a man in his 50s from Lea County, a man in his 60s from Lincoln County, a man in his 60s from Luna County, a man in his 70s from Sandoval County and a man in his 60s from Socorro County.

All had been hospitalized and all but one had underlying health conditions.

The total number of deaths related to COVID-19 in New Mexico is 1,144, including 21 in Chaves County.

As of Tuesday, 425 people were hospitalized for COVID-19. Tuesday’s update did not include percentages of general beds and ICU beds filled in the state.

The state has designated 23,736 cases of COVID-19 as recovered, including 960 in Chaves County.

The state has conducted more than 1.2 million tests for COVID-19 since March, including 36,085 in Chaves County.
