On Nov. 10, local veterans living in Roswell’s retirement homes got a thank you for their service in the form of patriotic masks. The little gift bags with the masks were brought to the retirement homes by members of the Roswell Women’s Club.

First stop was at Bee Hive Homes of Roswell, where Navy Veteran Clarence Blair, a retired Roswell court stenographer, and World War II Veteran James E. Goss thanked the ladies for thinking of them.

Goss is known in the community for his performances and involvement in the Roswell Community Little Theatre, who presented him with a platinum pin at its 60th season anniversary dinner in 2018. “That’s now over, but I am still a member,” Goss said. Goss said that he served on the European front in World War II under Gen. George S. Patton.

On behalf of the club, Debbie Fedric said, “We are so thankful for your service. God bless you and God bless America.”

Fedric said the club has been bringing gifts to local veterans in retirement homes for every occasion throughout the years. “Right now it’s Veteran’s Day, then it’s Christmas and Valentine’s Day — all occasions,” Fedric said. “A lot of times we give them cards, and this time — with what’s going on with COVID — we thought it’d be a great idea to make patriotic masks, which Ermelinda (Wylie) made — 28 masks for our veterans.”
