A pedestrian died early Tuesday after being struck by a vehicle in south Roswell.

Police responded at approximately 5:30 a.m. to a call from someone who saw a person lying on the side of the road in the area of South Main Street and Charleston Road, according to Todd Wildermuth, public information officer for the Roswell Police Department.

The 61-year-old man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle — a 30-year-old man — did not initially stop, thinking that he might have struck a stray dog, but did return upon hearing that law enforcement was at the scene, Wildermuth said.

The incident remains under investigation and Wildermuth said it is too early to say whether the driver will face any criminal charges in connection with the accident.
