Everyone’s hopeful and keeping their spirits up: The members of the Roswell Community Little Theatre (RCLT) are hoping that after the tight restrictions end on Nov. 30, the state’s regulations will permit the theater to hold auditions for Santa’s Talent Search, which is planned for Dec. 2 and 4, at 6 p.m. on both days.

Longtime actor and director at RCLT, Gina Montague, said in a phone interview, “Honestly, we are going to have everyone social distancing with a mask, we’ll have hand sanitizers there in the theater, and we are doing everything that we can without totally shutting down.”

Asked how many will be able to perform, she said, “We want to choose the very best acts and if we get a number over that, we have to make hard decisions. We want to make it the best show we can.”

Montague said that any person or group that has a family-friendly, safe act can perform. “We are not putting any rules on what kind of acts there will be,” she said.

According to Montague, interested parties can find the entry form, the rules to the contest and a liability waiver on the theater’s website. “They can print those out, fill it out and bring it with them with their entry fee on the night of audition,” she said.

Montague said that singers and musicians will have to provide their own music, or have it as an MP3 file. “The rules about music rights are written in our rules as well,” she said.

Asking about details of the performance, Montague said, “It’s Christmas themed and our judges are going to be the Grinch, the Abominable Snowman and Sugar Plum Fairy and emcee is Santa — it’s very playful.

“We are limiting it to two hours and it will be two nights, repeat performances. The winners will be announced on the second night, the 19th. There will be two people’s choice awards, so both audiences get to vote for their favorite. The people’s choice winner can be different depending on the audience.

“This is going to be a fun, family-friendly event. We’re going to decorate. We’re going to have a carriage in the lobby where people can take pictures with Santa — just to live as normal as possible.”

The auditions take place at RCLT, 1717 S. Union Ave. There is an entry fee. The performances will be on Dec. 18 and 19 at 7:30 p.m. For more information, visit roswelltheatre.com.
